The Greenwood Project Welcomes Ross Bonnewell

We are excited to be welcoming a new contributor to our website.  Ross Bonnewell will be writing on many of the outdoor activities you enjoy pursuing.  His love for the outdoors began during his childhood on the 10 acres of old tobacco fields and deep forest where he lived with his parents. After thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1998, Ross has spent the last 12 years in the outdoor retail industry and has also worked as a raft guide and a backcountry ranger in New Mexico’s Philmont Scout Ranch.  His passion and knowledge of the outdoors will be an asset to the Greenwood Project.  Ross is also a land owner and will be sharing some of the ways he is maximizing the land ownership experience including his latest project of building a hops trellis.

Ross is the owner of, a website dedicated to assisting hikers, bikers, and paddlers get to their next Western North Carolina adventure. offers options for people looking to have a great time in the woods but don’t want to worry about having to set up multiple car shuttles in order to do so.   He currently lives in a small house up a very steep hill near Whittier, NC with his beautiful wife, Meredith, and their two dogs, Kool-Aid and Scrapple.
